The Wisconsin Department of Justice have revealed Jacob Blake had a knife in his possession when he was shot by a police officer.
“During the investigation following the initial incident, Mr. Blake admitted that he had a knife in his possession,” the release reads. “DCI agents recovered a knife from the driver’s side floorboard of Mr. Blake’s vehicle. A search of the vehicle located no additional weapons.”
Following Blake’s shooting on Aug. 23 Kenosha has faced three nights of unrest, including fatal shooting deaths and scores of buildings destroyed from vandalism and arson.
The incident is being investigated by the Wisconsin DOJ’s Department of Criminal Investigation (DCI) with help from a coalition of local, state and national law enforcement agencies.
“DCI aims to provide a report of the incident to the prosecutor within 30 days,” the release reads. “The prosecutor then reviews the report and makes a determination about what charges, if any, are appropriate. If the prosecutor determines there is no basis for prosecution of the law enforcement officer, DCI will thereafter make the report available to the public.”
The Wisconsin DOJ also discolsed there was no body camera footage available from the incident as the Kenosha Police Department does not wear body cameras.
